Over the past three days, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has undertaken several operations targeting Iranian-backed Houthi forces. On July 9, CENTCOM forces successfully destroyed an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) operated by Houthi forces in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen. This UAV was deemed an imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces, as well as merchant vessels in the region, prompting the action to ensure the safety and security of international waters.
On July 10, CENTCOM reported the destruction of two additional Iranian-backed Houthi UAVs over the Red Sea, along with an uncrewed surface vessel (USV) in the same area. The most extensive operation occurred on July 11, when CENTCOM forces successfully destroyed five Houthi USVs and three Houthi uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) over the Red Sea and in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen. These actions were again taken in response to the imminent threats these systems posed to U.S., coalition forces, and merchant vessels, emphasizing CENTCOM's ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety and security of international waters and protecting regional stability.
