Inflation:

- The US inflation rate is at 4.98%, down from 6.04% last month and 8.54% last year.
- Economists use the consumer price index (CPI) to measure inflation, which consists of a basket of variables such as food, rent, and energy.
- The March report indicated a slightly lower increase than the expected 5.1%. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, experienced a 5.6% increase over the year ending in March.
Ethereum:

- The Ethereum network recently underwent change through the Shanghai upgrade, which allows users to withdraw their staked Ether on the proof-of-stake chain.
- Now that the Shanghai upgrade has occurred, users can access their previously locked Ether. The immediate impact is uncertain, as the demand for withdrawals might initially be higher than new staking deposits.
- To withdraw staked Ether, users must join queues, which could take months to process due to imposed limits, preventing the network from becoming vulnerable to attacks.
- Ethereum Market Cap: $230 Billion
UK Smokers:
- The UK is providing free vaping starter kits to 1 million smokers as part of their "Swap to Stop" initiative, aiming to reduce cigarette smoking. In 2019, the government set a target to become "smokefree" by 2030, with only 5% or fewer of the population smoking.
- As of 2021, the smoking rate is at 13.3%, and recent reviews suggest the UK is likely to miss the target by at least 7 years. Additionally, pregnant women will be offered up to $500 in vouchers to support their efforts to quit smoking.
