USS Gerald R. Ford:
- The U.S. has deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford, its most technologically advanced and the largest warship on Earth, to the eastern Mediterranean in response to the war in Israel. This crisis erupted following a significant attack by Hamas, resulting in over 700 casualties.
- The deployment of this nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, equipped with two A1B reactors, allow it to operate for decades without refueling. This action signifies the U.S.'s unwavering commitment to Israel. U.S. Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, affirmed this action as a direct show of support, pledging additional equipment and resources to the Israel Defense Forces.
- Accompanying the USS Gerald R. Ford are the USS Normandy, USS Thomas Hudner, USS Ramage, USS Carney, and USS Roosevelt. While the USS Gerald R. Ford faced developmental challenges over a decade, its cutting-edge capabilities emphasize the strategic importance of aircraft carriers in the U.S. military's toolkit, especially during tense global situations.
Sony Hack:
- Sony experienced a cyber attack and has alerted roughly 6,800 present and past employees of a data breach in May and another breach in September. The May breach was due to a weak point in the MOVEit Transfer platform used by Sony, a system also attacked in other organizations.
- After being informed about this vulnerability by Progress Software, MOVEit's creator, on May 31st, Sony realized the breach had happened on May 28th, with hackers obtaining data. This data contained personal details of U.S. employees, and Sony is now offering them credit monitoring services. The vulnerability has been rectified, but the data has been stolen.
- Furthermore, Sony started looking into another breach last month where hackers got 3.14GB of data from a server in Japan used for internal testing. The culprits leaked multiple files from different platforms and tools. However, Sony emphasized that this breach did not disrupt its operations.
