Yesterday, OpenAI introduced GPT-4o ("o" for "omni"), a new AI model designed for improved human-computer interaction. This model accepts inputs and outputs across text, audio, and image formats. GPT-4o responds to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, comparable to human response times in conversations, and matches GPT-4 Turbo in performance on English text and coding.
It also shows improvement in processing non-English text and excels in audio and visual understanding, all while being 50% cheaper in API usage. GPT-4o integrates multimodal interactions within a single model, allowing it to handle various data types efficiently, enhancing the model’s applicability across different languages and modalities. The initial deployment of GPT-4o will be on web platforms, making it accessible across all devices and independent of restrictive app store policies.

Ohio Lottery Cyberattack:

On Christmas Eve 2023, the Ohio Lottery experienced a cyberattack that led to the unauthorized disclosure of personal data for 538,959 individuals. The attackers accessed sensitive information, including names, Social Security Numbers, and other personal identifiers. The breach notification detailed that while the attackers infiltrated the internal office network, the gaming network remained unaffected. Following a thorough forensic investigation concluded on April 5, 2024, Ohio Lottery confirmed the extent of the data compromise and began notifying affected individuals.
In response to the breach, Ohio Lottery is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services provided by IDX to those impacted. Despite the breach, there has been no confirmation that the exposed data has been misused for fraudulent purposes. However, the DragonForce ransomware group, which claimed responsibility for the attack, stated they stole 94GB of data. They also mentioned that they had entered into unsuccessful long negotiations and criticized the Ohio Lottery for their apparent negligence regarding the potential harm to individuals.
The ransomware group further claimed they had access to records equivalent to about 12% of Ohio's population and had conveniently formatted this data into CSV files for download, alongside full database copies. This aggressive breach underscores the ongoing risks and challenges organizations face from cyber threats and the importance of robust security measures to protect sensitive information.
