Google & DOD AI Microscope:

The U.S. Department of Defense and Google have collaborated to create an Augmented Reality Microscope (ARM) powered by AI. Priced between $90,000 to $100,000, this microscope aims to assist doctors, especially in smaller labs, in detecting cancer and managing increasing workloads due to workforce shortages.
Dr. Nadeem Zafar, a pathologist at the VA hospital in Seattle, used this AI-enhanced microscope for a prostate cancer case. He and a colleague had a disagreement about the cancer's severity. Using the ARM, they were able to swiftly identify the tumor's aggressive section, validating Zafar's diagnosis. He believes the technology acts as a beneficial "arbitrator" in such disputes.
Currently, there are 13 ARMs, with one at the Mitre facility outside Washington, D.C. At a glance, ARM appears like a standard microscope. However, its AI can outline cancerous areas on a slide, visible through its eyepiece and a monitor. The AI also evaluates the cancer's severity, presenting its findings in a heat map.
Patrick Minot from Mitre states the ARM complements pathologists' workflows without disruption. The device helps address the challenges of digitizing pathology, like extensive storage needs, by offering a more efficient and cost-effective alternative. It doesn't aim to replace digital systems but offers an option that maintains the microscope's essential role in pathology.

Missing U.S. F-35 Jet Found:

On Sunday, the Marine Corps shared news that one of their state-of-the-art F-35 fighter jets had mysteriously disappeared after its pilot was forced to eject while flying over South Carolina. Known for its sophisticated stealth technology that makes it extremely challenging to detect on radar, the F-35 continued its unmanned journey, eluding tracking efforts.
Due to its stealth capabilities, officials found it tough to pinpoint its exact location, prompting the Marine Corps to make an unprecedented request for public assistance in the search. As the search intensified, relief came on Monday evening when military personnel confirmed the jet's wreckage had been located within South Carolina. As of now, the reasons behind the pilot's decision to eject remain unknown.

Apple iOS 17 Upgrades:

Apple has released its latest software updates, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, for iPhone and iPad users. In iOS 17, notable enhancements include "Contact Posters" that display a chosen photo or Memoji during calls, "Live Voicemail" for real-time message transcriptions, a relocated end call button, and enhanced autocorrect for more accurate texting.
Additionally, a standout feature called "StandBy" lets users view a large clock, widgets, and photos when their iPhone is in landscape mode while charging. On the iPad side, iPadOS 17 introduces customization options for the lock screen, mirroring the features seen in iOS 16. Users can now enjoy interactive widgets on both platforms.
Significant improvements have also been made to the Stage Manager feature. However, those with iPhone X or iPhone 8 won't receive the iOS 17 update. In addition to these, Apple unveiled tvOS 17, signaling a significant year for Apple TV.
